TIME LINE
Throughout the history of Methodist Episcopal Church South, The First Methodist Church and now The First United Methodist Church, Corsicana, Texas., Christians have met to share their faith. Following are some notable events at First Methodist, Corsicana.
- 1880 - First Missionary Society west of Mississippi organized
- 1901 - Debt paid and Sanctuary dedicated.
- 1912 - Foreign and Home Societies united into Women's Home and Foreign Missionary Society
- 1921 -Sunday School Contest with 2,351 in attendance on Easter Sunday
- 1942 -Education Building built
- 1926 - Education Building dedicated
- 1951 - 100 years of Methodism celebrated in Corsicana
- 1951 - Dedication of Historic Marker and Pipe Organ
- 1967 -New Parsonage at 825 Cedar Crest built
- 1972 - Sanctuary refurbished, paint, pew cushions, carpet
- 1978 - Schudi Organ installed
- 1979 - Fix-Up, Spruce Up, Paint for church, Grounds landscaped, Prayer Garden established, Brides Room decorated
- 1980 - Major Sanctuary renovation, Tower rebuilt, Spire roofed Building waterproofed
- 1981 - Congregation moved to Martin Hall for inside work
- 1981 -Work completed and bill paid for $310,000
- 1984 - Elevator building (connecting hall-stairs) completed
- 1984 - Family Ministries Bldg. completed including Great Hall, Game Room, Rest Rooms, Classroom, Kitchen, Scullery
- 1984 - Preschool Bldg. completed
- 1984 - Needlework kneelers designed by Marie Fortson and completed by women of the church
- 1991-1995 Sanctuary foundation leveled and strengthened. Waterproofing, roofing, inside water damage repair, painting renovations began. 100 year old structural design needed major repairs and maintenance. New Sound System installed. Thanksgiving Fruit - The altar is decorated with fruit and candy for Sunday then delivered to the home bound.
- 1996 Bohmfalk Carillon Bells installed. Sanctuary Centennial celebration.
