Everyone is welcome to worship at First United Methodist Church. Our sanctuary was built in 1896 and is a beautiful place to praise God and celebrate the faith that is ours in Jesus Christ. The Sanctuary has stunning stained glass windows and the steeple is a Corsicana landmark. The two Traditional services provide a familiar and welcoming environment for many who have grown up in the church seeking God.
ACOLYTES
The Acolytes lead our worship as they bring in the flame to light the candles on the Altar table and the platform, we celebrate the light of Christ that comes into our lives and our worship. When the service concludes our Acolytes extinquish the candles and carry the light out of the sanctuary as a symbol of Christ’s Light guiding us out into the world to serve God’s people.
MUSIC
The beautiful music of our Pipe Organ, Piano, and Chancel Choir bring us into an attitude of worship. We sing the great Hymns of our faith that stir our souls and speak to us of God’s love and grace. The Adult Hand Bell Choir occasionally add to the sound of these worship experiences in both services.
CHILDREN
Children are a very important part of our Traditional Services. Each of us, regardless of age, are children of God, and are welcome in worship. We have a special time in the service for our young children; Children’s Time. We share with the children that they are precious in God’s sight and most welcome in worship as Jesus taught when he told the disciples not to keep the children from him. During the 10:50 service we have “Children’s Church” following the Children's Sermon for children 4 yrs. old – 5th grade. We also have a nursery for all worship services for infants – 3 yrs. old.
PRAYER
Through prayer, we offer our praise to God, and we pray for healing, grace, and forgiveness. Through prayer we grow in relationship with God and the oneness we all feel in Jesus Christ.
SCRIPTURE
We go to the Scriptures for inspiration and guidance as we listen to the proclamation of God’s Word. We receive direction to follow God’s truth in our lives. As the service concludes, we are sent forth out into the world to be the Body of Christ every day. God’s Spirit empowers us to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world today. In both services, God's word is shared through traditional readings and responses with the sermon preached by Rev. Mike Alexander. Occasionally Steve Moss, Associate Pastor preaches at this service and Cynthia Moss, Director of Student Ministries preaches at this service.
OFFERING
The offering is an important act of worship. We offer to God our praise, our worship, our hearts, and our financial resources as our response to the immense grace of God the Holy Spirit showers in our lives. It is a time when we celebrate that each of us is part of the Body of Christ. We serve together our community and our world in Jesus’ name.
HOLY COMMUNION
We celebrate two sacraments in the United Methodist Church. Sacraments are holy acts instituted by Jesus himself that we share together. They are a part of our life of faith. We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion each first Sunday of the month, Maundy Thursday of Holy Week, and Christmas Eve. Through this Sacrament we remember Jesus’ Last Supper with his apostles, we express thanksgiving for all the mighty acts of God in history, we experience God’s amazing grace in our lives, and we participate in being the Body of Christ. All are welcome to share in Holy Communion!
BAPTISM
We celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism when an infant, child, youth, or adult is presented to the Church for Baptism. Baptism is the sacrament of initiation and incorporation in to the Body of Christ. Baptism is a symbol that highlights the amazing grace of God. God loves us all with the gift of His Son. God receives us all by the grace of Jesus. We rejoice in being a part of the family of God.
